Interrail Global Pass

One pass, 33 countries. The Global Pass is the classic Interrail product for European residents who want to string together several countries — France plus Italy, Spain, Germany, Benelux and more — on a single ticket.

Eligibility

Who can buy an Interrail pass?

Anyone can now buy an Interrail Global Pass, wherever they live. Since 10 September 2026, Eurail has retired its name and merged into Interrail globally — the pass that used to be sold as "Eurail" to residents outside Europe is now sold under the same Interrail name, at the same price. If you were expecting to buy a Eurail pass, you'll simply see it as "Interrail" at checkout (see our notes for overseas visitors).

The one thing your country of residence still affects: if you legally reside in one of the 33 network countries (the UK, EU member states, Switzerland, Norway, Serbia, Türkiye and others), your Global Pass also includes one free outbound and one free inbound journey within your home country, to get you to the border and back. Residents outside the network don't get that leg, since they don't have a "home country" inside the zone.

Proof of residency: if you're claiming the home-country bonus leg, you'll usually need to show ID or a residency document matching your billing address, so book it under your real home address.

Coverage

33 countries, thousands of routes

The Global Pass covers national rail networks (and some partner ferries/buses) across nearly all of Europe, including France's SNCF network, Germany's DB, Italy's Trenitalia, Spain's Renfe, and more.

Restrictions to plan around

What the pass doesn't cover

Seat reservations

High-speed and night trains — French TGV inOui and Ouigo, Italian Frecce, Thalys/Eurostar, most sleeper trains — need a paid seat reservation on top of the pass (in France: €5–10 on Ouigo Train Classique, €10–20 on TGV inOui and Ouigo, €19–25 for a night-train couchette; international trains cost more), booked separately and subject to limited pass-holder allocation.

Travel day rules

A "travel day" runs midnight to midnight. Flexi passes must be activated in an app or paper pass before boarding; forgetting to mark a travel day can mean a fine on board.

Domestic-only trains

Some purely commuter/local services and most metro/tram/urban transit systems are excluded.

Night trains use 2 travel days

Overnight departures after 7pm typically count against the following day, but always check the specific route rule.
