Interrail One Country Pass: France

Staying entirely inside France? The One Country Pass gives you a set number of travel days on SNCF's network — TGV inOui, TGV Ouigo, Intercités and TER regional trains — without paying for a full Global Pass. Open to everyone since Eurail's name was retired into Interrail on 10 September 2026.

Is it worth it?

Pass vs point-to-point tickets

A France pass earns its keep on trips with several long-distance journeys booked close to travel, when walk-up SNCF fares are highest. If you're making one or two trips and can book weeks ahead, ordinary SNCF Connect tickets are usually cheaper.

Pass tends to win when…

  • ✓ You're booking last-minute or your dates are flexible
  • ✓ You're making 4+ long-distance journeys
  • ✓ You want the freedom to change plans without a change fee

Point-to-point tickets tend to win when…

  • ✓ You can book 1–3 months ahead (SNCF's cheapest fares)
  • ✓ You're only making 1–3 journeys
  • ✓ Your route is mostly short regional (TER) hops

The TGV catch

Reservations are compulsory on French high-speed trains

This is the detail people miss. Owning a rail pass does not guarantee a seat.

TGV inOui

Compulsory paid reservation: €10 while the limited pass-holder quota on each train lasts, then €20 until the train is full. The cheap quota sells out first on popular routes (Paris–Marseille, Paris–Lyon, Paris–Nice), especially in summer.

TGV Ouigo

Contrary to older advice, Ouigo is bookable with a pass: expect roughly €5–10 on Ouigo Train Classique (regional-based) services and €10–20 on Ouigo Grande Vitesse (high-speed) services. Reservation is compulsory and confirmed by email a few days before travel.

Intercités & TER

Most Intercités routes need a reservation (€10–20, or as little as €1.60 where it's only recommended); TER regional trains rarely need one at all, and where they do it's a small regional fee (roughly €1.70–2.50).

Book reservations early

Reserve as soon as your travel dates are fixed, ideally the moment reservations open (typically a few months ahead), not once you land in France — the cheapest quota goes first.

Bottom line: budget €10–20 per TGV/Ouigo journey (€19–25 for a night-train couchette) and €0–20 per Intercités/TER journey for reservations when comparing the pass price against buying separate tickets.
